Egypt

This is our first glimpse of Egypt, the resort at Port Ghalib. Compared to Sudan this is like another planet.

This is our spot in the marina.

This is a common sight, what we call a "Field of Dreams" town, after the movie where the theme was "If you build it they will come". This place is 90% empty. This is very common in Muslim countries. We wonder if it's an aspect of Islamic banking or just general corruption, perhaps both.

This was our next stop, the "swanky" resort town of Hurghada.

We thought this was a weird ferry boat. From the Saudi flag on the side we wondered if it was some sort of Hajj express. It is much bigger that it appears.

This is Sheraton Avenue, the main street downtown in swanky Hurghada. Bursting with civic pride. We could show you many more similar pictures. Boy, the Muslims really know how to put the sh*t in sh*thole.

Hurghada suffers the plague of the Middle East, massive infestations of feral goats. Note the feeding frenzy on a bag of garbage. We can imagine the locals desperately holding BBQs to control the population.

These were our main stops in Egypt other than Cairo and Luxor, which have their own pages. When you're finished with them you can return to the Red Sea here.
