Chock full o' Isles

This is Cape Brett, NZ, the last land we'll see for 6 days.

We had some anxiety about the passage back to the tropics. Just north of here is where numerous boats were lost in the infamous "Queen's Birthday Storm" of 1994, when winds reached 100 kts and seas grew to 60'.

We never tire of ocean sunsets. This is maybe 300nm N of NZ.

Ironically, we had the same experience sailing to Fiji as we had going to NZ, viz. the first 900nm were easy, the last 200nm were just awful, with winds gusting to 40 kts and huge boarding seas that found leaks we never imagined existed. The main saving grace was we flew the last 400nm, averaging over 180nm/day and beating much fancier boats that left when we did by as much as a day.

We begin our Fijian adventures in Suva, aka Fiji SE
