On the left is northern Tahiti around Point Venus, which is east of Papette. The right shows a canoe race in the lagoon on the west side; Moorea can be seen about 15nm away. Here is a view of the Papeete market downtown. On Sunday mornings you can buy almost any fruit or vegetable, provided you don't mind paying $50 for a watermelon or $30 for a dozen oranges. However, you are so starved for decent produce that the $5 bag of tomatoes or $2 head of lettuce is more than worthwhile. We don't have that many shots of Papeete because it resembles a run-down part of Paris, i.e. not all that picturesque. They do, however, have real stores and goods like fresh baguettes and pate. If you can afford the cost of living, life on the south coast of Tahiti could be idyllic. I love a market anywhere, this indoor marche' in Tahiti had just about everything, for a price! The infamous thirty dollar a bag of oranges. This shows a guy can get sick of shopping most anywhere. Maybe it's time for a baguette and brie.
Here's a dance troupe. They take the hula very seriously and dance here is not the wishy-washy stuff you see in Hawaii. This is a view of Tahiti Iti from the Gaugin Museum. We didn't know that Tahiti is really 2 islands: Tahiti Nui (big) and Tahiti Iti (small). They are joined at a narrow isthmus. Most of Tahiti is uninhabited and Tahiti Iti has very few roads. Next we go to Moorea
